Holistic Grief Support

Why Grief Support?

Each and every person will experience multiple losses in their lifetime. It is a difficult, yet very significant reality of life. The associated grief following a loss is considered one of the major stressors in life and impacts us deeply whether we acknowledge it or not. For most, a loss can cause immense disruption and struggle, however depending on past experience, current life circumstances and support, the healing process can vary significantly.

Unfortunately, our society tends to get uncomfortable with emotional pain and loss. We often aren't given much time off of work, friends and family don't know how to act or support us, and we are left feeling like our grief should be contained in a perfect little box. This means that for many, grief it is managed by "moving forward" and surviving day-to-day. I am here to let you know that it does not have to be that way.

Your grief deserves the time and space to be fully acknowledged.

After the loss of my mother in 2014, during one of my many overwhelming waves of grief, a healthcare practitioner gently said to me... "I know its hard and unbearably painful, but you either go through it now or go through it 10, 20 or 40 years from now. There is no way around your grief..." I sat there and let this reality sink in. Deep down I knew she was right. I gave myself permission to make my grief a priority in my life and to fully commit to the healing process. A decision I am thankful for everyday.

There wasn't much guidance out there for how to overcome this big hurdle, so I created my own "Holistic Grief Plan". For me this meant daily yoga, meditation and journaling, weekly grief counselling and acupuncture visits, rebalancing my diet after months of junk and connecting with others who had experienced a similar loss. It has been a few years since the loss of my mother and I can say that I have made huge progress, however the reality is that the grief is always there. It ebbs and flows daily. We never "get over" the losses of our loved ones, we just learn how to live with the pain.

Providing support for others who are grieving has become a passion of mine. For many it is extremely overwhelming, which is why I want to make it a little bit easier for you!

What  to Expect?

The process of moving through our loss is called "grief work" and I feel this describes the grief journey so well. Our loss is not something we just "get over", but rather a new reality we must adjust to and a series of complex emotions we must allow ourselves to process. Learning how to move through our own individual, unique grieving style can be deeply impactful. Through our sessions, I walk alongside you as you do your "grief work", offering a supportive hand when it is needed and guidance when you may be lost or confused.

The Grief  Support sessions are an opportunity to explore your journey through grief in a safe, compassionate space. The first session allows us to get an idea of where you are in your grief journey and what goals you may have. On a case by case basis, we explore grief education, tips for coping with grief and loss, tools for moving through grief, counseling, mindfulness and breathing. These sessions are designed to provide support as you move through this difficult and painful time, allowing you to fully honour the healing process through loss. Please note: the loss does not have to be of a person, it can be any form of grief - job, health, pet loss, relationship, major change etc.
